2021 CT COLT Poster Contest!

  • The cost for CT COLT members is $10. Please have your credentials available to log into your membership profile. If you are not yet a member, you can become one as part of this membership process. The cost for non-members will be $40 ($10 event fee + $30 membership fee).

A great way to promote the study of world languages is to encourage your students to share their enthusiasm with their peers throughout Connecticut. The CT COLT Poster Contest affords this opportunity! This event will include K-12 Connecticut students whose teachers are members of CT COLT. Students are to submit an original or a photograph of artwork related to the 2021 theme:

Languages Celebrate Our Differences

Registration for this event will be open from January 4 to March 4, 2021

Deadline for artwork submissions: March 5, 2021

In order to be considered eligible for judging, all of the following criteria must be met:

  • Art must be the original work of one student only; work done in groups will be disqualified.

  • The artwork can be created in any medium of the student’s choice but must be done by hand: pencil drawing, pen and ink. drawing, painting, watercolor, acrylic paint, color markers, crayon, pastels, oil painting, collage, mural, sidewalk chalk, and the like. No digital mediums are being considered.  

  • Art must incorporate the exact wording of the theme. Illustrations must be used in addition to the words of the theme. No other words are allowed, ONLY the theme. Copyrighted figures are NOT permitted in the design. The design will be judged for its graphic merit, not artistic skill.

  • Registration form must be completed in its entirety.

  • School Entry Fee: $10 for CT COLT members (all posters submitted must be submitted by CT COLT members).

  • Student Entry Form (with signatures) must be obtained by teacher, and teachers are expected to retain these forms for their records.

  • School limit of 5 names per category has not been exceeded: Elementary K-2, Elementary 3-5, Middle /Jr. High School, High School

  • Art must be uploaded to registration form or postmarked no later than March 5, 2021.

  • Since teachers can now submit digital copies of the posters, schools can now keep or frame the posters for themselves, perhaps for displaying them at school.  

PLEASE NOTE: ANY ART THAT DOES NOT MEET ALL OF THE CRITERIA WILL BE DISQUALIFIED

Judging Criteria: relevance to theme, connection to culture, overall visual impact, creativity and neatness. 

In addition to winning a prize for best in their category. The winning pieces of art will be displayed on the CT COLT website. Furthermore, the winning artwork will be featured in the CT COLT Newsletter and the 2021 CT COLT Calendar, which is typically distributed at our Fall Conference. For information on past contests and winners, visit here!

Prizes: All participants will receive a CERTIFICATE OF PARTICIPATION

  • K-2 (Elementary) $50

  • 3-5 (Elementary) $50

  • 6-8 (Middle School) $50

  • 9-12 (High School) $50

  • Grand Prize $100
